Last night in Allentown, PA, business leaders and entrepreneurs from across the Lehigh Valley gathered at Notch Modern Kitchen & Bar for an impactful evening focused on one of the most critical stages of growth: scaling a business. Hosted by YMI and moderated by our President, Jimi Honochick, the Executive Edge: Scaling Your Business event brought together a great turnout of engaged attendees, all eager to learn, connect, and share in the conversation.

From the moment doors opened at 5PM, the room quickly filled with energy. Following registration, guests settled in for a thoughtful and engaging panel discussion featuring Marie McConnell and Ken Charette of FLB Law, business advisor and author Theresa Cantley, and Karen Robinson of CliftonLarsonAllen. Each speaker brought a unique perspective, creating a well-rounded discussion rooted in real-world experience and tailored to businesses here in Allentown and the greater Lehigh Valley.

A Lehigh Valley Event Focused on Real Growth
Scaling isn’t just about growth—it’s about doing more with less, and doing it strategically. That idea remained at the center of the conversation, with panelists offering practical insights that local business owners could immediately apply. The discussion struck a balance between big-picture thinking and actionable advice, making it especially relevant for companies navigating growth in the Lehigh Valley.

Operations: From Operator to Visionary
A key theme throughout the evening was the transition business owners must make as they scale. Moving from operator to visionary requires stepping back from the day-to-day and focusing on building a business that can run without constant oversight. The panel discussed the importance of putting the right processes in place, structuring changes intentionally, and managing relationships through clear contracts. For many in the audience, this shift in mindset was one of the most impactful takeaways.

Finances: Data-Driven Growth
The conversation also highlighted how critical financial visibility is when scaling a business. Panelists emphasized forecasting, digging into the data, and maintaining a clear understanding of cash flow to ensure long-term stability. For businesses in Allentown and throughout the Lehigh Valley, having a solid financial foundation not only supports growth but also positions companies to secure financing when needed.

Succession: Planning for What’s Next
Looking ahead, the panel explored succession planning and the realities of exit strategies, including mergers and acquisitions and retirement planning. A particularly compelling concept discussed was the “identity transition” that comes with stepping away from a business you’ve built. Planning for that transition early allows business owners to approach the future with clarity and confidence.

Strong Engagement from the Allentown Business Community
One of the highlights of the evening was the engaging Q&A session, where attendees asked thoughtful questions that sparked deeper discussion. The level of participation reflected the strong interest in scaling strategies across the Lehigh Valley business community. That engagement carried into the networking hour, where conversations continued over drinks and appetizers, creating valuable new connections.

Events like Executive Edge continue to showcase the strength of the Allentown and Lehigh Valley business community.
